EYS TURBOS - 3RD PLACE FINISH TO END THE INDOOR SEASON

The EYS Turbos finished off the Winter Indoor season with a 3rd Place finish in the U9 Age Bracket!!!

It's been a long indoor season for the Turbos, playing a year up in age hasn't been easy, but it's been a lot of fun. The Turbos improved every week as the long indoor season went along, and it showed and paid off as they took home 3rd place trophies to end the second session!!

The EYS Turbos faced off against the Den Of Lions Starz for 3rd place on Saturday morning..and THRILLING is an understatement for the game that was played. Both teams battled all day. It was 45 minutes of pure heart and determination on both sides of the ball. The Turbos had some early chances from G. Orellana and N. Osorto, but the DOL Starz defense was equal to the task. The first 10 minutes of the game were intense with both teams going back and forth with plenty of chances. The DOL Starz finally broke through taking a 1-0 lead. But it wouldn't last long as the Turbos bounced right back just a couple of minutes later. The play built slowly from the back after G. Falcon made a big save and played the ball out to D. Quishpi, who sent the ball up the right side to I. Contreras. It was a 2 on 1 break for the Turbos. I. Contreras took a blistering shot that bounced off the boards and right to the feet of D. Zokner who drilled the ball into the back of the net. Game tied at 1.

The score would stay tied for another large chunk of time, but eventually, the DOL Starz would break through again taking a 2-1 lead. The Turbos would have some more chances as O. Rico and I. Contreras teamed up nicely up front a few times, but the DOL Starz goalie was equal to the task. BUT...just like earlier in the game, the Turbos would not be denied. N. Henriques made a steal in the defensive zone and played the ball up the left side to M. Shamy who dribbled into the middle. He would pass to N. Osorto who switched the play to the right side where I. Nieves carried the ball up right side boards. The ball would find it's way into the corner where L. Henriques would dig it out and pass it back out to I. Nieves who took a sharp angle shot from the right side of the goal that found the back of the net!! Game tied at 2!

With only 3 minutes left in the game...the Turbos turned it up. M. Olavarria picked up a loose ball in the midfield and started the play up the field. He would connect with I. Nieves on the right again. I. Nieves would push the ball up field quickly and rip another shot into the back of the DOL Starz net. The Turbos had a 3-2 lead with just under 3 minutes to play!!

The last 3 minutes of the game seemed to last an eternity. The DOL Starz flooded the Turbos end looking for the goal that would tie the game. With just 38 seconds left...their hard work would be rewarded. The DOL Starz tied the game at 3...and just like that...off to Penalty Kicks we would go.

Both teams lined up at midfield. The DOL Starz on their side with arms around each other. The EYS Turbos on their side with their arms around each other.

Round 1:

The Turbos would take the first shot. M. Olavarria lines up a few yards from the DOL Starz goalie and waited for the referee's whistle. He took a few steps back...ran up to the ball...and blasted a shot to his left, high over the diving goalkeepers outstretched body.

The DOL Starz player lined up for his first shot. G. Falcon would run to the goal line and stare down his opponent. The shot was a hard one to G. Falcon's right. He guessed right...but didn't need to make the save as the shot went wide!!!

Round 2:

I. Nieves would take the 2nd shot for the Turbos. He would place the ball down on the penalty spot...and take a few steps back as he lined up his shot. He made a quick run up to the ball...and finessed a shot into the upper left hand corner of the net over the keeper's hands!!

The DOL Starz lined up for shot #2. G. Falcon again took his place on the goal line. As the DOL Starz player ran up, G. Falcon was not phased. Again, he guessed right and stayed in the middle of the goal...the shot was high and right down the middle. G. Falcon was able to get the tips of his gloves on it, but the shot was just out of his reach.

Round 3:

D. Zokner was the 3rd kick taker for the Turbos. He scores and it's over. He ran up and placed the ball down on the penalty spot. Waited for the ref's direction...took 3 small steps back...ran up for his shot....

...

.......

GOAL!!! Just like the other 2 goals before his, he put it high into the left had corner over a diving goalie!!!

THE TURBOS WON!!! They rushed to their penalty kickers and jumped up and down in pure joy before lining up to shake hands with the DOL Starz.

It was a great game. Both teams played hard and left it all out there today. The Turbos battled for each other, and it paid off in the end!! SO PROUD OF OUR KIDS!!

Unable to play today due to other commitments where C. Henao, D. Lyons and R. Monteiro. Though not there in person, they were there in spirit and heart!!!
