EYS Turbos...Friday Night Lights version!!
The EYS Turbos were back in action Friday night, under the lights, after a 2 week layoff. They faced the Raiders from Hillsborough on an unusually warm October night. There was fog in air...a light breeze off the water...and soccer to be played!!
The Turbos were eager to get going again after 2 weeks off..and they came out flying. Good ball control early and play up the wings by D. Quishpi, D. Zokner, M. Olavarria led to some early runs at the Hillsborough net by O. Rico and R. Monteiro, but their defense was just as fast as the Turbos forwards. Hillsborough managed to get back and stop the fast moving attack regularly. After some early pressure, the visiting Raiders pushed up field on a counter attack. The Turbos were equal to the challenge, and seemed to have squashed the counter attack, but then an ill advised pass from the back up the middle led to a turnover, and Hillsborough capitalized. They found the back of the net first....Turbos down 1-0.
Just a few minutes later, with the Turbos still trying to understand how they were down 1-0 after carrying the play early, Hillsborough struck again. Off of an almost impossible angle deep on the end line, the Hillsborough team sent a desperation shot at the net that somehow when through a few defenders and beat the I. Nieves on the short side. 2-0 Hillsborough.
The Turbos had been here before. They knew they could battle back...and they did just that. The combination of N. Henriques and G. Falcon settled down on defense and the Turbos quickly turned the play around again and put the pressure back on the visitors. C. Henao, M. Shamy, D. Lyons and N. Osorto provided some quick ball movement in the midfield and after a few corner kicks and some good attempts on goal, L. Henriques used his speed to chase down a ball coming across the middle and found the back of the net. He had the Hillsborough goalie going one way, and put a low shot past him to the opposite side. The Turbos were back in the game. 2-1 Hillsborough still in the lead.
That's how the half would end...and the Turbos were energized and ready to go back out there and tie the game. They had some good chances early in the 2nd half, but were turned away. On a few occasions, they were just a few seconds too late on a breakaway passes...but they kept plugging away. Finally, they broke through...L. Henriques again had a break on net, but was on his weak foot...and shot the ball just wide with the goalie nowhere in sight. They were getting close...but it wasn't too be. Minutes later, off of some confusion in the Turbos defensive zone...the ball took a few bounces and ended up in the back of the Turbos net off of a Turbo player. 3-1 Hillsborough.
..and that's how it would end. The Turbos suffered their first defeat of the season. They weren't too happy, but they played hard and never gave up. They'll be looking to rebound after a short turnaround on Sunday afternoon against Holmdel.
HAVE FUN!

WAY TO GO TURBOS!!
