Game 5 of the 2016 Fall Season was not a kind one to the EYS Turbos.
Coming off of short rest, the EYS Turbos looked to bounce back from their first loss of the season just 2 days earlier. The Turbos traveled to Holmdel to square off against Holmdel FC NJX Barcelona, a late addition to the schedule.
Holmdel came into the game riding a 5 game undefeated streak, during which they’d scored a total of 35 goals and conceded just 6. Undaunted, the Turbos were determined to slow them down. Playing with an extra defender in the first half, the EYS Turbos weren’t able to get much offense going, but they were able to slow down the Holmdel attack. Holmdel would get on the scoreboard first and found themselves up 3-0 midway through the 1st half. The EYS Turbos were not without chances of their own, but just couldn’t find the back of the net, but their persistence would eventually pay off. In the 27th minute, after a good battle in the midfield, M. Olavarria and D. Zokner found themselves racing up the middle on a 2 on 1. As D. Zokner went wide left, he drew the defender with him, leaving M. Olavarria enough room to sprint past the defender with the ball and drill a shot into the bottom of the net. The Turbos suddenly had life, but the half would end with Holmdel leading 3-1.
The 2nd half followed the same form as most of the first half, but the Turbos couldn’t seem to get any bounces. They had their chances, but Holmdel wouldn’t break. Some bad bounces and miscommunication in the defensive third resulted in 2 more quick goals by Holmdel, bringing the lead to 5-1. The Turbos would bounce back with a late flurry and kept some good offensive pressure, but couldn’t find the back of the net. Eventually, the wore down a little, and that resulted in 2 more goals by the Holmdel team on the counter attack.
The game would end with the EYS Turbos losing by a final of 7-1.
The score wasn’t pretty, but the defensive play at times from the Turbos was. Sometimes, the other team is just stronger, and that was the case on Sunday.
…but there’s always next week!!
The Turbos will look to stop the 2 game losing streak on Sunday as they return home to the friendly confines of O’Brien Field, where they’ll face Millburn. This will be the second meeting of the season between the Turbos and Millburn. The first meeting ended in a 1-1 draw.
HAVE FUN!
PLAY HARD!
SHOW RESPECT!
LET'S GO TURBOS!!
