EYS Turbos vs. Millburn (10.30.16) - Game 6 Recap

Game 6 of the 2016 Fall season started the second leg of games on the Turbos schedule. The schedule has wrapped back around, and the EYS Turbos faced off against Millburn again, who they faced in the first game of the season on the road and played to a 1-1 draw. This time Millburn would come to Elizabeth to play the Turbos.

The game had some good pace right off the bat. Both teams moved the ball quickly up and down the field early, only to be stopped as soon as they hit the defensive backlines by some great play from both teams in the defensive end. The duo of N. Henriques and D. Lyons did a great job commanding the backline to hold off the Millburn attack. In the 5th minute, the Turbos would find a way to break through. Off a dead ball foul at midfield, the Turbos rushed to the ball and played it quickly up the middle. The Millburn team was flat footed and didn’t expect such a quick turnaround. M. Olavarria played the ball quickly up to D. Quishpi who used his speed to get by the Millburn right back and blasted a shot into the upper left hand corner of the net. Turbos take the early lead 1-0!!

The first half would end with the EYS Turbos up by 1.

The second half was almost a mirror image of the first. Again, both teams moving the ball quickly up and down the field. C. Henao, D. Zokner and N. Osorto controlled the midfield early and pushed the ball up to R. Monteiro, who had a few good runs broken up by the Millburn defense. As the game wore on at a furious pace, the Millburn team would find a way to equalize the game off a bouncing ball in the box. 1-1.

Just a few minutes later, another dead ball foul would lead to goal. From a free kick just outside the penalty box, the Millburn team blasted a ball past the 2 man wall to be G. Falcon on the short side. It was a perfect shot…and the Millburn team would take a 2-1 lead.

With 10 minutes left in the game, the Turbos found themselves staring at a 3rd loss in a row. They were determined to turn it around. For the next 5 minutes, the Turbos would pepper the Millburn net. I. Nieves would put a few balls right across the goal, that were just out of reach of the players in the box. A few corner kicks also found D. Zokner and D. Quisphi in the penalty box, and they pushed a few shots just wide. Eventually, with 5 minutes left to play, the Turbos efforts would wear down the Millburn team. M. Shamy would drive a cross off the near post and the rebound bounced out to L. Henriques…who made NO mistake and drilled the ball into the bottom of the net. EYS Turbos would tie the game at 2-2.

The Turbos weren’t done trying to pull back the win just yet. After the kick off, the Millburn team would drive down and get a good shot on net, only to be turned aside by G. Falcon. He would play the ball up quickly and send the Turbos flying back into the Millburn zone. The would continue to pepper the Millburn net…but couldn’t get that final goal through to take the lead.

The game would end in a 2-2 draw. A terrific and exciting game to watch!!

The EYS Turbos will be back at it next week for their final home game of the season when they take on the Cedar Stars team from Staten Island at 1pm (O’Brien Field). The last time the two met, the Turbos won 3-2.
