...and the EYS Turbos have officially kicked off their first travel season!!
The Turbos went on the road for their first league game against Millburn. It was a hot afternoon in Millburn, and the action on the field was just as hot. The game got off to a slow start with both teams feeling each other out. After about 5 minutes, the Turbos seemed to start clicking and began to dominate possession. They held the ball in the opponents end for most of the game, but Millburn withstood the pressure. As the first half was coming to an end, Millburn struck first, taking advantage of an EYS defensive player slipping and losing control of the ball. With a Turbo down and trying to get back to his feet, Millburn went in on a break and made it count. The half ended with the Turbos trailing 1-0.
As the second half kicked off, the Turbos were determined to get back even. They put on pressure early with numerous shots being blocked resulting in an onslaught of corner kicks. Millburn held strong though. In the 36th minute, the Turbos would strike back. After a free kick just outside the penalty box, the ball bounced around in the Millburn penalty box and a shot was blocked by a defenders hand, leading to a penalty kick.
With ice in his veins, Lethal L. Henriques stepped up to the penalty spot. He stared down the goalie a few yards in front of him. He took a few steps back. A deep breath...and began his run towards the ball. The goalie guessed correctly..he went to his left, but the shot beat him. Just like that...the Turbos were tied!!
The game would continue to go back and forth..again, with the Turbos dominating possession...and again, Millburn would not break. Then, in the 57th minute, with just 3 minutes left to play, a bad bounce sent the ball right into a Turbos hand in the penalty spot. The Millburn side were awarded a penalty kick with time running out. As the players lined up, G. Falcon stood on his goal line. He looked at the Millburn player a few yards away from him, and began to jump up and down on his goal line. The ref blew the whistle...the Millburn player made his run towards the ball...he shot...G. Falcon guessed correctly...he dove to his right...and the shot...went WIDE!!
The Turbos made one last attempt to pull out the win, but it wasn't meant to be. A flurry of shots in the final minute just couldn't find the back of the net.
It was a great day...and both teams had a blast!
It wasn't a win on the scoreboard...but the Turbos walked away with their heads held high..and what felt like a win in our hearts!
HAVE FUN!
PLAY HARD!
SHOW RESPECT!
