The EYS Turbos took the field in Week 3 of the EDP season with back to back weekend games. The back to back games weren't good to the Turbos on the score sheet, but there were plenty of positives that came out of both games as the Turbos scored a bunch, and played with grit and determination the whole time.
The first game of the weekend was a Crossover Game against the Scotch Plains Pulisic team. The Scotch Plains team does not play in the Turbos division, but rather a flight higher. This was a test for the Turbos to see where they stand against teams in higher flights. The Turbos would end up losing the game by a final score of 10-6, but not before giving the Scotch Plains team early fits. In the end, the size and strength of the Scotch Plains team just wore the Turbos down as the game progressed.
A Crossover game does not count in league standings.
The game started in typical Turbo fashion by using their speed and team work to jump all over the opponent. In the 3rd, 6th and 8th minutes, the Turbos netted 3 quick goals to take a 3-0 lead!! All three resulted from quick turnarounds from the backline of D. Quishpi, L. Henriques, N. Henriques and D. Lyons to the midfield. The ball was played to the right side each time where C. Henao with a short pass, and the I. Nieves with a through ball and a long ball all found I. Contreras who beat the opposing back line each time and netted 3 goals in short order!!
Turbos up 3-0 in the 8th minute!!!
The Scotch Plains team would come back in the 13th minute with a goal of their own to make the score 3-1. The 2 goal lead didn't last long however as the Turbos would pull one right back in the 14th minute when D. Zokner stole a pass coming up the middle, made a quick move to his right and put the Turbos back up by 3!!
Turbos up 4-1 in the 14th minute!!!
The game would remain scoreless for the next 8 minutes, thanks to Turbos goaltending as G. Falcon found himself 1v1 on several occasions as the Scotch Plains forwards muscled their way into the offensive zone and peppered the Turbo goalie. He came up big to keep the Turbos in the game. The Turbos would threaten a few more times as R. Monteiro, O. Rico and M.Shamy each had good chances on goal, but the Scotch Plains goalkeeper was equal to the task.
Between the 22nd through 30th minutes, the Scotch Plains team would eventually take the lead, thanks primarily to some very good free kicks. They would score 5 goals in that time to take a 6-4. 3 of the goals came off of free kicks from just outside the penalty box. None went straight in as G. Falcon was able to stop the initial shot each time, but the rebounds were put home by the opposing team.
The half would end with the Turbos down 6-4.
The away team would net another early goal in the second half to make it 7-4..but the Turbos weren't giving up. In the 47th minute, C. Henao would pull one back for the Turbos after receiving a cross from N. Osorto to cut the lead to 7-5!
Turbos down 7-5 in the 47th minute.
The Scotch Plains team settled down again and would come right back with 3 of their own to make the score 10-5 with 7 minutes left to play. The Turbos determination was not to be mistaken though, as they would pull another back in the final minute of play as I. Nieves again connected with I. Contreras for the 4th time on the day to make the score 10-6.
That would be it for the day as the Turbos dropped the Crossover game to the visiting Scotch Plains team.

Game 2 of the weekend had the Turbos travelling out West to Gillette to face the Centercourt FC squad for their 3rd game of the EPD season.
This one was a nail biter most of the way. Both teams were very equally matched, and neither one was willing to concede their ground early.
Again, the back line of D. Quishpi, N. Henriques, L. Henriques and D. Lyons stood tall early one thwarting off attacks and keeping the opponents to the outside of the field. In the middle, D. Zokner, I. Nieves, N. Osorto, O. Rico and M. Shamy controlled the play with good communication and passing...while up front R. Monteiro and I. Contreras made great runs to get behind the defense and onto through balls played from the back. In net, G. Falcon was a brick wall early on diving left and right to keep the ball out of the net.
For 21 minutes the game would remain scoreless. O. Rico, N. Osorto, I. Nieves and I. Contreras had early chances, but sent the ball just wide or over the net. The Turbos definitely had the better chances early one. In the 21st minute however, the home team would break through and take the lead 1-0, and carry that lead into halftime.
After a quick break, the Turbos were eager to get back on the field for the 2nd half. They were ready to go from the opening whistle and pulled the game back to a draw in the 31st minute. After a diving save, G. Falcon played the ball out to his left back L. Henriques. With a defender bearing down on him, he made a great spin move to get away and played a long ball up to D. Quishpi up the left sideline. With a O. Rico running up the left sideline, they went in 2 on 1. With the threat of the pass to the right, the defender didn't know which way to turn, and by the time he made up his mind it as too late as D. Quishpi ripped one high to the keeper's left!!
Turbos tied 1-1 in the 31st minute!!!
The game would go back to it's back and forth battle the rest of the way, with each team having great chances..but the defense and goal keeper's stood tall to keep the game tied. Then..with 8 minutes left to play, the Turbos got caught with too many players up field. A loose ball in the midfield was quickly turned back the other way and the Centercourt team rushed up the field 3v1. It was too much for the Turbos defender and goalie to handle as opponents took a shot that just trickled across the goal line to take a 2-1 lead.
Turbos down 2-1 in the 52nd minute.
Pushing hard for the draw, the Turbos went to one defender in the back and pushed up a fourth midfielder. D. Lyons patrolled the backline alone and was able to hold off the Centercourt attacks, all while making quick passes from the back to send the Turbos on the attack. R. Monteiro and I. Contreras found themselves with a little bit of room on a couple of occasions in the final minutes, but weren't able to find the back of the net. Eventually, the offensive pressure from the Turbos was turned on them and the Centercourt team rushed back up the field. With the midfield and defenders catching up to the opposing forward, he thought better of keeping the ball and blasted a high shot from just outside the penalty area. There was nothing G. Falcon could do as the ball went high over his reach and into the back of the net.
Turbos down 3-1 in the 57th minute.
Still pressing and sending everyone forward, the Turbos would concede one more in the 59th minute. The ball was rolling slowly from left to right on the goal line. D. Lyons hustled over and did his best to keep the ball out of the goal, but he just couldn't get there as his ball rolled over the line just as he got his foot on it to try and clear it.
The final whistle would blow...the Turbos would drop their first game of the EDP season 4-1.
The EYS Turbos didn't get the results they wanted this weekend, but they showed what they're made of: Teamwork. Hustle. Determination..and a Never Give Up attitude. They proved to themselves that they could play with teams in a higher bracket in the Crossover game..and they also proved that they can hang tough on the road on grass fields. All in all, not a weekend full of wins on the score sheet, but plenty of positives for the young EYS Turbos!!
