The EYS Turbos played out the final two games of the EDP Fall season this past weekend with back to back games against Valencia FC and SB4U Academy Ajax. Sitting near the top of the table, the Turbos knew that if they were able to close out the season with victories in the final two games, they would end the year in a tie for 1st place in the EDP North Division. The Turbos would be closing out the season with both games played at their familiar home turf at O'Brien field...and they came ready to play!!
EYS Turbos (6-0-1) vs. Valencia FC (3-0-4)
Game 1 of the weekend took place on Saturday afternoon against the Valencia FC squad. The Valencia squad was near the bottom of the table coming into the game trying to play spoilers on the day. The Turbos came in determined to keep them there and continue their chase for 1st place. To the surprise of the EYS squad, the Valencia team penciled in a last minute ex-Turbo to their roster in hopes of spoiling the day...but the EYS Turbos were determined to have the last word on this day. It would be an emotional day for the Turbos as they quickly realized they would be playing against an ex-teammate on the day..but they shook it off and were in full Turbo Up mode by the time the opening whistle blew.
As is their custom in most games..the Turbos came out flying hoping to catch their opponents sleeping, and this day was no different. Just 1 minute into the game, the EYS Turbos jumped all over Valencia FC and got on the scoreboard early. Right from the opening kick off, N. Henriques jumped up from his defensive position to steal a pass headed toward the right corner. He quickly turned the ball up the field to I. Nieves on the right. With the opponent still rushing in to catch up to the original pass, I. Nieves looked up and saw L. Henriques at midfield with just one defender marking him. He sent a ball up to L. Henriques, who settled the pass, turned toward the net and turned the jets on. He played the ball up to himself into space, put his shoulder down into his defender and blew past him to walk in on net. From just inside the penalty box he ripped a shot off with his left foot beating the keeper to his right!!
Turbos lead 1-0 in the opening minute of play!!!
The lead wouldn't last very long however. The Valencia squad was able to get a ball deep just 3 minutes later and pulled on back from the left side in the 4th minute as their tall forward was able to get a shot toward the goal that slowly dribbled across the goal line after bouncing off some legs and ended up in the back of the net.
Turbos tied 1-1 in the 4th minute.
The Turbos weren't used to letting in many goals..and letting one up so early in this one seemed to wake them up quickly.
In the 10th minute of play, G. Falcon rushed out of his net to stop a rush from his left side and diving on a pass into his penalty box. He quickly got up and played the ball out D. Lyons playing left back. D. Lyon tried to move the ball up the left wing, but N. Osorto was covered. Instead he found C. Henao in the middle of the field. C. Henao and N. Osorto would take the ball up the left side with some quick one touch passing and N. Osorto would drive a shot into the box from his left wing position. The shot was blocked and bounced back out to midfield where C. Henao brushed off his defender to jump on the loose ball. In typical C. Henao fashion, he blasted a moonshot high at goal from outside the penalty box and over the outstretched keepers arms!!
Turbos lead 2-1 in the 10th minute!!!
With some fresh legs on the field, the Turbos pressed hard in the 14th minute to extend the lead even further. Again building from the back, D. Quishpi played the ball up the right side to O. Rico. With the right sideline closed down, she slid the ball into D. Zokner in the midfield. After some fancy footwork to create some space for himself, D.Zokner decided to switch the play from the right to the left where L. Henriques was waiting at his forward position. With little time to react, L. Hernriques pulled the ball to his shooting side and quickly let a shot go towards the goal...and right past a diving keeper!!
Turbos lead 3-1 in the 14th minute!!!
The Turbos were riding high, and they weren't letting up. 5 minutes later, offensive pressure would lead to a turnover, and another goal. As the Valencia goalie played the ball up on a goal kick, R. Moneteiro rushed in and caused havoc on the backline. As soon as the defender touched the ball, R. Monteiro was righ there to challenge him for the ball. With no time to react, the defender booted the ball to left side, where M. Shamy was there to intercept the pass. He rushed in from the left wing position and attempted a shot with his left foot. The shot had to go through a maze of legs on the way to the net...hit the far post..and bounced across the line!!
Turbos lead 4-1 in the 19th minute!!!
The game settled down for a bit after that as the Turbos recharged while focusing on team defense. G. Falcon stood tall in goal saving everything that came his way to close out the half, while the midfielders scrambled back to support their defensive back line while the opponents turned up the heat. Having weathered the storm, the Turbos looked to get one more on the scoreboard before the half came to a close. Again, N. Osorto and C. Henao would have the left side midfielders and defenders spinning as they played one touch up the left sideline. With one final leading through ball from C. Henao into the offensive third, N. Osorto darted down the sideline to catch up to the ball. With a defender rushing in on him from the opposite side, he ripped a shot on goal with his left foot just as he made his way into the penalty box. The goalie dove..but couldn't reach the perfectly placed low shot far to his right!
Turbos lead 5-1 in the 30th minute!!!
That would cap the scoring for the 1st half as the Turbos took a comfortable 5-1 lead into the break....but they knew there was still more work to be done to close this one out. The Turbos would also have to close out the 2nd half down a player as R. Moneteiro picked up a knee injury toward the end of the half and would be unable to go in the second half.
It didn't take the Turbos long to find the back of the net in the 2nd half. Having figured out the opponents game plan of trying to feed the ball deep into the corners for their wings, the Turbos locked down the right and left midfielders of the Valencia squad. With the back line taking away all of the offensive options for the opponents, the Turbos were creating plenty of turnovers in the midfield, and they were determined to make them count. In the 36th minute, C. Henao would pick up one of those turnovers in the middle of the field and send a pass to his left to M. Shamy. M. Shamy would carry the ball deep to the end line and cut quickly towards the net. Riding the end line, he sent a pass across goal to the middle where L. Henriques was waiting, and looking to complete his hat trick. He let a rocket go of his left foot and beat the keeper low and to his right!!
Turbos lead 6-1 in the 36th minute!!!
In the 42nd and 49th minutes, the opponents would pull a couple of goals back as they pressed more players forward and jumped on a couple of loose balls.
Turbos lead 6-3 in the 49th minute.
With the game winding down, the Turbos seemed determined to have the last word on the day and put an exclamation point on the game with another goal. Their offensive pressure paid off eventually as C. Henao darted in from midfield to steal a pass from the back. He looked up and had just the goalkeeper to beat. As he moved up field with time and space, he picked his head up, stared down the goalkeeper and smoothly sent a shot low and hard to his right and into the back of the net!!
Turbos lead 7-3 in the 56th minute!!!
That would do it for the day!! The Turbos held onto position for the closing minutes and waited for the final whistle.
GAME OVER!!!
Turbos win 7-3!!!
With the victory, the Turbos moved to 7-0-1 on the season, and still controlled their own destiny. A win on Sunday...and they would be tied for first place on points atop the Northeast Division.

EYS Turbos (7-0-1) vs. SB4U Academy Ajax (1-0-5)
Day 2 of back to back weekend games. The Turbos came into their final game of the season knowing that a victory would give them a share of 1st place after winning the previous day. They would face off against the SB4U Academy squad on the final day of the season. It was a chilly Sunday afternoon. The sun wouldn't come out on this day as there were clouds in the sky...and a light drizzle in the air to start the game. The drizzle would turn to full on rain before the game was over, but nothing was going to deter the Turbos on this day.
The Turbos would win the coin toss and defer possession to the opponents so they could defend the North end of the field first. The opening whistle blew, and the Turbos darted at the opponents to try and steal the opening kick off. Under pressure, the SB4U squad kicked the ball deep into the Turbos zone and out of bounds. The Turbos were setting the tone for the game early. They would press all afternoon...and never let up.
4 minutes into the game...the Turbos would strike. Play would again build from the back as L. Henriques stole the ball at the left back position and made his way to the left sideline. He sent a pass high and up the line to N. Osorto who chased down the leading pass and dribbled deep into the offensive zone. With a step on his defender, he looked to the middle and saw D. Zokner racing up in the forward position. He sent a cross through to the penalty box and straight to the waiting forward. D. Zokner pulled the pass down, did a quick pull back to buy some space from his defender and ripped a shot high into the net!!
Turbos lead 1-0 in the 4th minute!!!
The Turbos took the early lead and settled the game down. Having just conceded early, the opponents quickly switched to 3 defenders in the back to slow the Turbo attack down. They slowed the game down enough early on, but the Turbos kept pressing. D. Lyons, D. Quishpi and N. Henriques did their usual work on the backline of allowing the SB4U squad nothing up the middle. G. Falcon wasn't tested early on due to the great play in the back, but a foul just outside the penalty box in the 20th minute would change that. As the SB4U forward lined up for his free kick, G. Falcon put his wall in place. He lined them up to cover the right side of the goal, and he positioned himself on the left side waiting for the shot. Either the SB4U forward was going to try to go over the wall with a high shot...or a line drive to the left. As he ran up to the shot, the wall held their ground, and the forward tried to beat G. Falcon high and to his left. He was perfectly placed and dove to his left to keep the shot out of the net!!! It was a great save to keep the Turbo lead intact at 1-0.
The game would go back and forth in the midfield for a long period and the game would remain 1-0 until the 23rd minute of play...when the Turbos would strike again. D. Zokner took control of a ball in the midfield and sent his forward L. Henriques in on goal on the left side. With 2 defenders in his path, L. Henriques tried to split them with a shot, but it was blocked and bounced right back to him. With the ball back at his feet, he looked up and saw D. Zokner on the far side of the net. He sent the ball across to D. Zokner who made no mistake and cashed in for his second goal of the day with a shot high to the keepers right!
Turbos lead 2-0 in the 23rd minute!!!
2 minutes later...the Turbos would strike again. This time, it was pure will and determination that extended the Turbos lead. After a block in the back, D. Lyons played the ball up to N. Osorto who was chippping into help on defense after an offensive flurry from the SB4U team. N. Osorto looked up and sent a clearing attempt up the field in the direction of L. Henriques at midfield. The ball bounced past L. Henriques and the wet surface shot the ball up field quickly. With two defenders back and another midfielder on his back, L. Henriques put his head down and found another gear. He zoomed down the field. First lowering his shoulder and blowing by the midfielder that was marking him. Then with 2 defenders chasing him down, it was a foot race for the ball. L. Henriques got to the ball first and played it ahead of him into space blowing past the first defender. He still had one defender left to beat. The left back was on his right shoulder, step for step with him. The SB4U left back tried to use his body to slow L. Henriques down with a shove from the right side, but L. Henriques was not giving in...he pushed the ball to his left...ran up to catch up to it and blasted a left footed shot towards the goal. There was no chance for the goalie as the ball screamed past him to his right and into the back of the net!!
Turbos lead 3-0 in the 25th minute!!!
That would cap the first half scoring as the Turbos took a 3-0 lead into the break. They were halfway to their goal of closing out the season with a win, but there was still plenty of work to do.
The Turbos came out in the second half ready to put this one away early. They knew the job they had left to do, and were more than ready to complete their task.
Just 4 minutes into the second half, the Turbos would extend the lead to 4. M. Shamy would be on the receiving end of a pass from N. Henriques on the left side and would send the ball upfield to C. Henao. He would cut inside the defense on the left side to pick up the pass from M. Shamy, and C. Henao would tally the first of his 3 goals on the day with a quick shot to the keeper's right and into the back of the net!
Turbos lead 4-0 in the 34th minute!!!
Just 3 minutes later in the 37th minute, I. Nieves would get the Turbos on the scoreboard again. C. Henao would carry in on the left side and rip one towards the goal. The shot would be blocked and bounce out to a perfectly positioned I. Nieves on the right side. With a wide open net in front of him, I. Nieves calmly passed the ball into the back of the net for the Turbos' 5th goal of the day!
Turbos lead 5-0 in the 37th minute!!!
But..they weren't done yet. One minute later, I. Nieves would be on the passing end of a beautiful finish from M. Shamy. R. Monteiro would run in and steal the ball on the kick off and pass it to the right for I. Nieves. I. Nieves quickly sent the ball into space down the right side and bolted after it. After a touch to settle the ball, he quickly shot a pass with pace across the penalty box to the left side where M. Shamy was racing in at top speed from his left midfield position. With no time to think or react, M. Shamy saw the ball coming in quickly and one timed a shot that flew into the back of the net past a diving keeper. It was a Tic Tac Toe play with serious pace. The SB4U squad was still setting up from the previous goal, and before they knew it they were pulling another ball out of the back of their net!
Turbos lead 6-0 in the 38th minute!!!
In the 40th minute, the Turbos would have to deal with another scare from a free kick awarded to the SB4U team. Again, this one was from just outside the penalty box to on the right side of the field. G. Falcon again directed his backline to build a wall to his left as he covered the right side of the goal. The SB4U forward tried to beat the wall again with a shot hard to the left side of the goal..and into the diving hands of G. Falcon to keep the opponents off the scoreboard!!
In the 43rd minute, the Turbos would do it again. This time, the lead was extended with a goal off the right off of O. Rico. On a day where high caliber goals for the Turbos seemed to be the theme, this one was no exception. D. Quishpi would pick up a lose ball in the back and send it up to D. Zokner in the midfield. With all of the play on the left side of the field, D. Zokner looked up at midfield and saw nothing but space down the right sideline. He sent a beautiful through ball up the right side into space. O. Rico came rushing from the midfield line, put her head down and ran as hard as she could to catch up to the pass. As she caught up to the pass, she made a quick touch forward to get the pass under control and a little closer to goal. In stride, she ran up to the ball and struck it on the run. She got all laces on the ball as the shot flew off her foot and rocketed towards the upper right hand corner of the net, just under the crossbar for the 7th Turbo goal of the day!
Turbos lead 7-0 in the 43rd minute!!!
With the game seemingly in hand, the Turbos didn't seem ready to let their foot of the gas anytime soon. In the 46th minute, D. Quishpi carried the ball deep and let a shot go that went just wide of the net. Seconds later, R. Monteiro took control of the ball in the midfield and sent a shot on goal that the keeper was just able to. Then, off a corner kick, D. Lyons ran up from his defensive position and let a shot go that went just wide of the net as well. The Turbos kept pressing. N. Henriques shifted up from his midfield position late in the game as well and had a few chances inside the box, but the defense was able to get in front of them and block the threats on goal. The Turbos were having a great day all around.
With the game winding down, C. Henao would put this one way for good. First in the 56th minute. I. Nieves would send a a low ball in from the right side and C. Henao would zip past a defender to get his foot on the ball and drive it hard into the back of the net to extend the lead to 8.
Turbos lead 8-0 in the 56th minute!!!
Then, just one minute later, C. Henao would complete the hat trick and get his third of the day. This time he would start and end the play. C. Henao would create a turnover in the midfield and send I. Nieves down the middle. With the defense closing in on him, I. Nieves would slide the ball back in the path of C. Henao would ran onto the pass and blasted another one home!!
Turbos lead 9-0 in the 57th minute!!!
With the game winding down, it looked like the Turbos would be locking down their 3rd clean sheet of the season...but the opponents and mother nature had another idea in mind. In the 58th minute the SB4U squad sent a screamer on goal from the right side. G. Falcon dove to his left and made the initial save, but the we ball slipped out of his hands and bounced along the goal line. The defense scrambled back to clear the ball from danger, but it was too late as a SB4U player got to it first and tapped the loose ball into the net.
Turbos lead 9-1.
That would do it on the day. The final whistle would blow just 2 minutes later..and the Turbos jumped and cheered in joy as they knew the victory had sent them to the top of the table tied for first place overall.

The Turbos are tied with CenterCourt FC, who beat the Turbos for their only defeat of the season. Both teams sit at the top of the standings with 8-0-1 records and 24 points! Because CenterCourt lost to SDFC, who the Turbos handed their only loss a few weeks back, there could be a potential 3 way tie for first place at the end of the season after SDFC plays their final game. Should SDFC win, there will be 3 teams at the top of the table with 24 points. If SDFC loses, the Turbo would end the season in second place to CenterCourt FC, and SDFC would end in 3rd place. Whatever the outcome, the TURBOS are tied at the top of the standings with 24 points and a share of first place!!!! It was a terrific Fall season!!!
With this game marking the end of the EDP Fall season, the Turbos will now take a break from game action until January. In January they will be playing in the Soccer Center U9 League in Somerset at the DTS soccer facility. The indoor season will run from January 13th until March 3rd and will consist of 8 games on indoor turf fields, playing 7v7.
GREAT JOB TURBOS!!!!!!!!
LET'S GO TURBOS!!!
